New reviews coming soon - including Franco's Oasis of the Zombies and Campfire Tales! 1.31.06: Hello, all! I don't want you to think that I've disappeared, but with all of the change that has gone on behind the scenes here, it has been hard to update and write reviews. I've been working on a few other websites and have had many developments as of late. 1.6.06: Happy New Year. Hope that your holiday went well. The first review of the year is up, and it's for the happily-horrific holiday double feature DVD of Christmas Evil and Silent Night, Bloody Night. More reviews to come, including indy film makers Cooke & Talbot's Campfire Tales (starring Gunnar Hansen) and the Jesus Franco (or is it AM Frank?) zombie classic, Oasis of the Zombies.
Although this hasn't been the busiest month for the site as far as new reviews are concerned, it is for traffic. There will be a slight re-design of the review pages, but nothing too noticeable. They will no longer be showcased in the frame, and will be featured on their own pages. For some, this will be a positive change. Please bear with us, more reviews will be coming soon.....
In addition to the DVD reviews that will be posted in the coming weeks, I will be doing some straightforward movie reviews - mainly to cover some good movies that either simply lack a decent DVD release or have disappeared into video oblivion.....these films will NOT be forgotten, especially at THIS website! 11.23.05: FAB Press has announced the signing of a publishing agreement with comic-book legend and renowned cult horror movie expert Stephen R. Bissette:
WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU! The Complete History of Cannibal Cinema
To be published by FAB Press, July 2007
With brand-new original Steve Bissette cover art, this book will be the last word on the cannibal genre.
A considerably truncated version of this text was previously published in Chas. Balun's historic The Deep Red Horror Handbook (FantaCo Enterprises, 1989), but this is the complete, unexpurgated version. Including cannibal and zombie film artwork by the author, and an eye-popping array (culled from the SpiderBaby archives and the renowned FAB Press archives) of super-rare movie pressbooks, clippings, ad mats, film stills and posters from around the world, dating back to the 1890s!
From Martin and Osa Johnson's silent cannibal travelogues to GOONA GOONA and the Mondo films, from DR. X to CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST and beyond, it's all here, researched and dissected with the usual Bissettian obsessive intensity.
WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU! will feature:
- Analysis, insights, and behind-the-scenes stories of those bloody Italian cannibal gems like MAN FROM DEEP RIVER, THE LAST SURVIVOR/JUNGLE HOLOCAUST, TRAP THEM AND KILL THEM, MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD, CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE/INVASION OF THE FLESH HUNTERS, EATEN ALIVE!/THE EMERALD JUNGLE, DR. BUTCHER M.D./ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST, and CANNIBAL FEROX/MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY.
- Cannibal cinema rarities like CANNIBALS OF THE SOUTH SEAS, A SCREAM IN THE NIGHT, WHAT'S BUZZING BUZZARD (Tex Avery's cannibal classic cartoon!), GOONA GOONA, FIVE CAME BACK, BACK TO ETERNITY, CANNIBAL ISLAND, SPIDER BABY, TERROR IN THE JUNGLE, AFRICA ADDIO/AFRICA BLOOD AND GUTS, the Mondo movies, THE WILD EYE, THE VALLEY (OBSCURED BY CLOUDS), HOW TASTY WAS MY LITTLE FRENCHMAN, MACUNAIMA, SURVIVE!, MONDO CANNIBALE, THE MAN HUNTER, CANNIBAL TERROR, CUT AND RUN, WHITE SLAVE, CANNIBAL TOURS, and more!
- Genre masterpieces including NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, SOYLENT GREEN, THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, and others!
- Mainstream off-genre essentials like SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER!, THE SKY ABOVE THE MUD BELOW, THE NAKED PREY, WEEKEND, A MAN CALLED HORSE, WALKABOUT, AGUIRRE THE WRATH OF GOD, THE LAST MOVIE, QUEST FOR FIRE, THE EMERALD FOREST, THE MISSION, and other surprisingly key titles you wouldn't associate with the cannibal films you know and love.
In addition to a standard trade paperback edition, FAB Press will be publishing an exclusive hardback signature edition. Each copy will be individually autographed by author Stephen R. Bissette. WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU! will be published by FAB Press, July 2007

FAB Press' BOOK OF THE DEAD - due for release September 30th - charts the ghoulish history of zombie cinema, from the creature's origins in Haitian voodoo to its cinematic debut in 1932's White Zombie, George A. Romero's quartet of 'Dead' movies (which includes the two acknowledged classics of the genre, Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead), and recent blockbuster hits like 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead and Land of the Dead.
Covering hundreds of movies from America, Europe and Asia, this comprehensive book chronicles the zombie's on-screen evolution from Caribbean bogeyman to flesh-eating corpse. Including an incredible 64 pages of
blood-drenched full colour photos and rare international poster art - and an exhaustive filmography, BOOK OF THE DEAD explains why we continue to be so fascinated by these fugitives from the undertaker.

to preserving the movie-going experience.
Going to the movies used to be an event, an experience never to be forgotten. This is the movie-going adventure BAFE brings to a whole new
generation of moviegoers and brings back for the generations that grew up with that experience.
Bay Area Film Events screens the classic and cult films from yesterday and the limited release, independent and hard to see films of today. Anyone
can screen a film, but BAFE makes it an event! Through the use of guests, displays, on-stage talent and multi-media support, BAFE presents movies
as a complete show and not just a movie screening.

8.7.05: The server had been down for a couple of days due to a serious problem. The site is back up online. However, everything was lost on the server. The site will be steadily restored back to its original form. Please be patient.
It will also take some time to get the reviews page, links page, upcoming releases page and sidebar navigation section (the left of this page with current reviews and upcoming reviews) back to its up-to-date status (many of those updates are done live rather than changing the original page files).
In addition, the store and forums will be unavailable, and when added, they will need to be re-configured - meaning that all current users of the forums must re-register (sorry, Bill!). Thank you in advance for your patience, the site will be back up to speed shortly!
8.5.05: BILLY DUFFY of THE CULT in talks to get 'ELECTRIC' with SIN-JIN SMYTH!
BILLY DUFFY of the high-octane band, THE CULT is in talks to lay down some heavy guitar work on the soundtrack of SIN-JIN SMYTH ! The film---which follows two Federal Marshals assigned to a midnight prisoner transfer (over Halloween weekend) of a mysterious man with no past---has a heavy action element in it, as if the characters were 'rough and tumble gunfighters out of the Wild West!' said Director (Ethan) Dettenmaier, 'And for that, we want a serious edge!'
Midnight Syndicate, who is hard at work designing the orchestral track for the film, wanted to revolutionize their sound---and The Director wants to keep the music mean! "Syndicate is inventive," Ethan continued, "And they made it clear that they wanted to expand upon the sound that they've become known for and that led to the idea of bringing in a guitar player. Once Edward (Douglass of Syndicate) and I discussed it, we agreed we should go out and get one of the best!"
Enter Billy Duffy...One of the most respected men in music!!!
Although a contract is still in the process of being worked out, the idea took a serious step forward as the film's Producers met with Duffy and members of the SANCTUARY RECORDS GROUP at their offices in Los Angeles in order to 'make it work!'
Duffy will also take on the role of Music Supervisor, (working from the library of Sanctuary Records (which includes: IRON MAIDEN, MOTORHEAD, ROBERT PLANT, BILLY IDOL, FLEETWOOD MAC, MOTLEY CRUE and others) and yes Duffy will also gear up to take on a wicked role in the film 'which will give him an opportunity to get locked and loaded, weapons and all!' FAB Press has decided to do something to help plug that hole in the market, and are pleased to be able to present 20 different back issues so collectors can immediately fill some of the holes in their collections.

IRON MAN: The Cinema of Shinya Tsukamoto
Shinya Tsukamoto is Japan's most influential and unique filmmaker. With Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Tetsuo II: Body Hammer, Tokyo Fist and Bullet Ballet, Tsukamoto has become one of the most widely praised filmmakers in Japan today. Edgy, intense and overwhelming, Tsukamoto's films are nightmarish visions of a world in which man's greatest enemy is his own environment of cold concrete and twisted technology.
Shinya Tsukamoto rejuvenated the Japanese film industry, paving the way for an entire generation of young Japanese directors like Takashi Miike (Audition) and Hideo Nakata (The Ring). He has been credited as a
direct influence on modern Western cinematic masters including Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill), David Fincher (Fight Club) and the Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix).

Comic book writer and publisher Joseph M. Monks might not be getting the kind of ink Frank (Sin City) Miller is, but the independent publisher turned director is beginning to turn heads as he prepares to lens his first feature this August in Miami. It isn't the fact that he is the latest comic book professional to make the jump from comic books to film, but rather the uniqueness of his situation. Monks isn't just writing this new feature, he is directing it. And while he isn't the first comic professional to take on directorial duties, there is a distinction he shares with no other--Joe Monks is totally blind.
Monks, whose comic credits stretch back to the groundbreaking cult classic Cry For Dawn and include such titles as NightCry, Tales of the Dead, The Night Terrors and the current horror anthology Zacherley's Midnite Terrors, begins shooting The Bunker this August. On board for the film are Terry (Flesh For The Beast) West, Ted A. Bohus (Return of the Aliens Deadly Spawn, Nightbeast), sexy newcomer Saskia Gonzales, and several other noteworthy actors not yet announced.
